Major Highways

Major highways and interstates in and near Garner provide two-day access to over half of the nation’s industrial base.

  • One of the most significant transportation projects in Garner’s history is currently underway. The Complete 540 project will finish the Triangle’s outer loop, further connecting Garner to the rest of the region. Learn more at Complete 540

  • U.S. Highway 70 is Garner's main artery, serving as a connector between Interstate 40 and Interstate 95.

  • Interstate 40 runs through Wake County, linking Garner with Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Greensboro, Wilmington and the Western United States.

  • Interstate 95 runs through nearby Johnston, Wilson and Nash counties and is one of the most widely used travel routes on the Eastern seaboard.

Transit

Major investments are underway to improve the region’s transit assets. Significant upgrades in bus service have already occurred, and planning for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is underway. One of the main segments of BRT will run from a main station in Northwest Garner into downtown Raleigh.

Additionally, plans are underway to add a commuter rail line running from downtown Garner through Raleigh and Cary and into the Research Triangle Park.

Air

Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) | www.rdu.com

Located 20 minutes northwest of Garner, Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) provides major air service for the greater Raleigh-Durham area.

  • 10 carriers provide nonstop service to 60+ destinations on 400+ daily arrivals and departures.

  • RDU has seen tremendous growth in the last several years and was recently upgraded to “Large Airport” status by JD Power. There is no higher category.

  • RDU serves more than 10 million passengers annually and offers service to 5 international destinations including London, Paris, Toronto and Montreal.

Rail

Passenger Rail - Amtrak | www.amtrak.com

There are two Amtrak stations in Wake County (Raleigh, Cary) that offer daily service to more than 10 locations on the East Coast and to points west.

  • The Carolinian travels daily between Charlotte and New York City, with stops in Raleigh, Richmond, Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Philadelphia.

  • The Piedmont makes daily trips between Raleigh and Charlotte.

The Town of Garner has partnered with the City of Raleigh to provide water and sewer services to the Town’s businesses and residents.  The Town of Garner has over 3 million gallons of excess water and sewer capacity.
