Mohawk (Garner) is Helping Build a Stronger Community

GARNER, North Carolina – Nestled of off Hwy 70 E. in Greenfield South Business Park, you will find the Mohawk flooring manufacturing plant. You would not know the facility was there unless you were looking for it. However, this unassuming manufacturing facility is making big strides in connecting with the Garner community and setting the example for what it means to be an involved corporate citizen.

Mohawk has two different facilities located in Garner that employ 135.  The largest facility is the Pergo plant, which was Pergo’s first North American plant, opened in 1996. Mohawk Industries, the world’s largest flooring manufacturer, acquired Pergo in 2013 and is still producing high-quality Pergo products in Garner today with some of the original team members!   The second location is the company’s distribution center which warehouses and delivers their innovative products to their customers.

Mohawk-Garner has taken connecting with the local community to heart.

“We begin by developing our leader’s skills in the workspace and then provide opportunities for them to take those skills and apply them to their daily lives within the community,” said Micah DeLoache, Plant Manager. “The community is what makes our Garner facility great! Our goal is to do our part to ensure that we are being just as supportive (if not more) than the community is to us.”

To ensure this community connection, Mohawk-Garner has hosted high school groups at the manufacturing facility for tours, collected and donated over 300+ lbs. of non-perishable food items for the food pantry at the Community of Hope, and partnered with the Garner Volunteer Fire Department for fire extinguisher training, as well as participate in an annual United Way campaign.

“Having an active and engaged business community is imperative to any local economy",” said Joe Stallings Garner Economic Development Director. “Mohawk-Garner’s investment in our community goes beyond tax base and jobs. They are pouring into our community’s youth with their plant tours for high school students, they are giving to those in our community most in need by donating to our local food banks, and they are setting an example of how private business, education, local government, and non-profits can work together to create a stronger community.”

There is more to come from Mohawk-Garner. When asked what the future holds for the plant Mr. DeLoache responded, “We are continuing to do great things, bring great ideas to life, and are taking steps to improve our company, our team, and the community in every way possible.
